This month we met with all of the safety patrols after their trip to Washington DC. We learned that they took a train there and stayed in hotels. They learned a lot about the history of our county and had fun, too!

What was your favorite monument?
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was cool because it tells us about a soldier who died that we didn’t know their name but we honor them. Abraham Lincoln Memorial because Lincoln went through so many things to stop slavery. We liked the quote “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” by Martin Luther King, Jr.

What was your favorite part of the trip?
We liked the hotels, we had our own TVs and comfortable beds. But we really liked the Changing of the Guards and the Smithsonian. We also got to buy stuff at the gift shops.

What was it like riding the train?
Riding the train was bumpy. Marwin kept asking for cookies from everyone. Mr. Forman had extra cookies but Marwin didn’t know and didn’t ask him. Too bad!

Was it cold in Washington DC?
Yes!!! It was 19 degrees. We could see our breath but we didn’t see any snow. We wish we would have been able to see snow.

What was the funniest part of the trip?
Isabella kept on losing her phone! Many times. Like more than 16 times. She also dropped it and the battery was coming out. One time she dropped it at the security and everyone turned and looked. It was embarrassing. We even found her phone in someone’s backpack! Isabella forgot she had put it there because she didn’t have enough room in her backpack.
Oscar is allergic to seafood but he ate popcorn shrimp because he said it tasted good. Mr. Forman had to take him to the doctor.
We also thought it was funny when Ms. Steinburg did Musicly and the flash went off in  Mr. Forman’s eyes and he was surprised.

Did you like the trip?
We did because we learned about history and we got to buy stuff.

Was there good food?
Yes!!!! We love to eat at Golden Corral but it was annoying to go to the same place. Except for Mr. Forman who really, really, really loves to eat at Golden Corral.

What did you learn on the trip?
We learned about the quotes from Martin Luther King, Jr. We saw George Washington’s house and we learned about the Civil War. We saw the Lincoln Memorial and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Monument.

We asked the teachers: Did you like the trip?

YES!!! We had fun. We made lots of memories and we had lots of laughs. We had fun with Isabella’s phone and Eileen’s Panda Hat and Marwin asking for cookies. We also liked how the students were able to learn more about the history of our county and see monuments of people we have learned about. We liked how excited the students were to learn more and how respectful they were at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Wow! Sounds like a fun trip. I love the American History Museum. All the first ladies inauguration dresses are there AND Julia Child's kitchen. I want to tell Isabella she reminds me of me - I am ALWAYS losing my keys!
